IJM Land Eases the Burden for Six Seremban Families this Festival of Lights

A developer’s annual charity initiative has brought cheer to six families in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, in time for Deepavali celebrations.
Each family received RM1,000 in cash and groceries worth RM600 under IJM Land Bhd’s “Deepavali Charity Cheer” programme, now in its eighth year.
IJM Land chief operating officer Datuk Chai Kian Soon said the effort was part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities, particularly during festive seasons.
He said this year’s programme was especially meaningful as it coincided with Seremban 2’s 30th anniversary.
“Deepavali symbolises hope and renewal, but for families facing hardship, its joy can often feel out of reach.
“Through this initiative, we want them to know they are not alone and that their community stands beside them,” said Chai.
“As we mark Seremban 2’s 30th anniversary, this programme is especially meaningful, reminding us that our true achievement over the past three decades lies not just in building homes, but in nurturing a community that cares for and supports one another.”
Among the recipients was bookstore assistant Hemamalini Mariaatan, 46, who earns RM600 a month and supplements her income through part-time cleaning jobs.
Her husband has been unable to work since suffering a stroke four years ago.
Another beneficiary is 28-year-old Rathnewari Ramesh, who works as a cleaner while raising two young daughters.
Her husband, who takes on odd jobs, is recovering from a leg injury.
The families expressed gratitude for the aid, which helped ease their financial burden during the festive season.
Chai hoped the company’s efforts would inspire others to embrace the spirit of giving and help make the celebration more meaningful for everyone.
